Gold Queens Being the Traditional queen color, Gold’s are often afforded seniority over Grayscale queens where both are present. Being large dragons and larger than most of the other dragons, the presence of a Gold in and of itself is enough to draw attention. Golds possess multi-faceted personalities that are often comprised of equal parts matron, confessor, general and judge. More often than not they are the driving force behind a Weyr, as they should be. Though, just when you think you’ve got a Gold figured out, be sure she’ll do something to surprise you. Never underestimate the Queen…or her rider.

Grayscale Queens Though the same size as their Golden counterparts, Greyscale queens are often mistaken as being larger due to their vast wingspan—a wingspan that is not often grown into. While they exhibit many of what might be considered “queenly qualities”, they are in general a bit more direct and some might say fierce. Overall they also seem to be a bit more aloof and even cold towards those around them, even their young. Though, as any Grayscale rider would tell you, this is due to the high and sometimes strict expectations that these Queens have of the dragons under their command, their young and the riders of all dragons. Perhaps the Grayscale’s multi-faceted personality leans more towards judge and general.

Grayscale Kings Grayscale kings are the only males known to grow larger than the Queens of the Weyr. They possess traits that are desirable when found in a dragon their size; valor, seriousness and protectiveness of their Queens, however, they are also a bit flawed. Grayscale males possess a sense of self worth and a stubborn will that often makes it difficult for them to accept that they are not always the ones in charge in a Weyr. It isn’t uncommon to find one plotting ways to subtly or even outright defy their superiors though attempts rarely—if ever—succeed.

Bronze Kings Bronzes can sometimes come across as pompous and a bit hot-headed, brooking no disrespect towards themselves or their riders—and most especially their Queen. They are quick to judge and are not often wrong when it comes to the character of a person. When they make a decision it is often acted upon swiftly. Some are nobler than others and most show a keen interest in the unattached Queens of the Weyr though it isn’t unheard of for a Bronze to save his affections for a smaller female.

Crimson Sub-King Big and powerful, Crimsons are known to reach sizes that are comparable with the lower range of the Bronze kings. Coming in every imaginable shade of red, sometimes with markings in varying shades of gray, they are quite striking in appearance. Possessing a few attributes of the larger males—namely pride and protectiveness—though they are loosely applied wherever the Crimson sees fit. However, any admirable traits they might possess—and they do often possess such traits as integrity and valor—are more often than not, overshadowed by their severe temper problems. Prone to sometimes violent outbursts, the triggers of such tantrums are as varied as the colors of their hides and quite often influenced by their riders. Because of this it is rare for a Crimson who is bonded to a weak-minded individual to survive through Weyrlinghood and training as it often takes a strong-willed and stubborn individual to keep a Crimson on task and focused, especially during crucial lessons.

Brown Sub-King Sturdy fliers with excellent stamina, Browns are, for the most part, stable and level-headed and dependable when there is need for it though many seem to believe in the concept of working and playing in equal proportions. Though their individual personalities might vary, as a whole, Browns often make excellent wingseconds, weyrling masters and even wingleaders at times. Moreso than the smaller colors, Browns seem to be the glue that holds the Weyr together.

Blue Fighters Stable, lithe and far more agile than the larger males, Blues are highly dependable and have a tendency to get a little too involved with their work, surprising even a veteran Dragonrider with their determination and strength. Coming in varying shades of blue, their personalities are often just as varied though all seem to share strong empathic abilities that make them the ideal Searchriders of the Weyr. Quite often they choose riders with similar work ethics; riders who are ready and willing to go the extra mile if needed.
Gender: Male Size: 49-52 feet Impression: 75% male, 25% female
Yellow Fighters Yellows are perhaps the strangest dragons of the Weyr; they are a fair amount smaller than the blues and only marginally larger than Teals and Greens and yet they almost always seem to possess a personality and ambition that seems as though it is far too large for them. Devious, crafty and downright spunky, for the most part, they have a tendency to Impress Candidates that have no hope of being in control—individuals that are easy to bend and shape however the Yellow chooses. On top of that, Yellows also enjoy and crave power and control over everything in their grasp and because of this they are often kept watch over by the larger colors so that they don’t cause too much trouble.
Gender: Male Size: 45-50 feet Impression: 70% male, 30% female
Teal Fighters Sweet and easy going, Teals are perhaps the most endearing of all the colors, especially when you take into account their shyness. They are just as—if not more—empathic than Blues and because of this can sometimes feel overwhelmed though they are still tapped to participate in Searches. With motherly tendencies and little chance to utilize them for a clutch—as Teals rarely clutch unless caught by a particularly strong male—they often turn their mothering to their riders or those around them. Due to their seemingly endless patience and their gentle ways, they often make perfect Candidate and Weyrling Master Assistants.
Gender: Female Size: 42-48 feet Impression: 40% male, 60% female Clutch Rate: 5% Clutch Size: 1-7 with an average of 4
Green Fighters Perhaps the most frequent sight at the Weyr, Greens might be considered common but there is nothing about their dynamic personalities that would suggest as much. It is never wise to underestimate a Green for quite frequently she will prove you wrong. Though they tend to be lusty and flighty in matters of the heart, they are swift and agile fliers and when given the proper chance to do so, will shine quite brightly in whatever task they are given. Their personalities run the gambit from haughty and vain to humble and unassuming, so generalizations are lost on this rank. Though one thing is for certain, it is very rare to ever find a boring Green about.
