And now for something completely different: a normal candidate.
Username: Diogenessbeast
Character Number: 4
Appearance:
Lyesrana has a homely look to her. At 5'5", she's averageish in height. In build, she is also mostly-average: she has wide hips and a curvacious form that imply she might be more comfortable carrying more weight them most girls. Her face, however, is long, with a long nose and thin lips. Her eyes are wide and grey-green. Her hair is auburn, and she wears it long when possible, though frequently braided to keep it out of her face. For clothing, she prefers pants as often as dresses.
Personality:
Mixture of a Young Lady and headstrong person. Generally calm, polite. Friendly. Tends to keep her mind in crises. Patient, gentle, soft-handed. Very good with animals, which is why she was a herder. Willing to accept people for what they are. Concerned with smallfolk and highfolk alike, no matter what end she's on. Even-tempered, stable, reliable. Warm. Loyal. REsponsible. Fond of young things, including children. Dreams of a family of her own, and a stable, long-term relationship. Realistic, though. Knows unhappy truths, and will deal with them. Survivable. Empathetic, udnerstands the natures of other people, and does not try to change them. Fair: if her mate sleeps around, she wants to also. if he or she is loyal, she will also be. Generous, nurturing. Friendly. As a leader- would rather NOT be in charge. Will if duty requires it, but no other reason. Better at people then at statistics and hard decisions. Takes decisions seriously, weighs consequences heavily even in small or personal things: as a leader, it would be worse. Familial: needs her loved ones around her. Stoic. Can survive harsh things (but, of course, would rather not.) Loyal. Moral. Witty. Polite, but frank. Speaks her mind. Has "the wild" in her in ways many young ladies do not. Has no patience for needlework, would rather be riding. Likes the woods and the wilds, enjoys hunting. headstrong, opinionated. Pretty sharp and intelligent, and especially observant, but her observations are not always welcome- but will not stop saying them anyway. Honorable. Strait-forward. Not particularly inclined to be diplomatic. Does not compromise, does not suffer fools. High expectations, somewhat strict in that she expects those expectations done, but willing to reward richly. As strict with herself as others. Brutally fair. Fond of fragile things, like the very young, and pottery. Enjoys conversation and meeting people. Fascinated by the lifestyles of others. Not very much one for casual sex, but the environment of the weyr does not trouble her. will seek long-term relationships to be sexual in. Warm sense of humor. Decent memory, good at subtext and subtly, though is not subtle herself. No care for politics. Generally not-violent or prone to fighting verbally, but will hold her own in an argument, and has a temper that will rise if she's pushed hard enough. Really likes candles and fire. Community-oriented, thinks things like storytime around fires is important, no matter how old you are. Willing to be humbled. Responsible, deals with the consequences of her actions. Insistent, will push her opinions.
Lysrana was born into a family of herders. They had been in the herdcraft for generations upon generations, even before the end of thread and Antaris's rise to power. Their family had generally loved and supported the dragonriders, and continued to offer their members up to candidates when search came around even before Antaris, when the dragonriders were held in low-regard. They continue to have members impress on the rare occasion when they are searched.
She was born youngest, with two elder brothers. Both of her brothers were searched by Antaris, though at different times. The eldest Impressed first: a brown, and he took the name Bry'red. The second-eldest managed to net a blue a few turns after Bry. Bry'red was a headstrong boy, who hated how the weyr treated the holders- but he was idealistic. Surely, enough hard-but-gentle work could subtly shift Antaris, right? Set it on the right direction so that the fraying relationship could be mended. He didn't expect what he found there: that he was treated as lesser then the other riders from coming there, and that the riders were so set in their ways. It didn't help that he was not a patient man: Antaris was rankling at his back, and he was not good at hiding his reactions to it. The younger brother had only freshly graduated weyrlinghood when the tragedy came to pass.
It was really the situation of a feather breaking the camel's back. Bry had been sent ot enforce the collection of the weyr's tithe. Upon seeing how much they were taking, and how little they were leaving the holders, who already had almost nothing, he could not keep quiet. He refused, loudly and viciously and publicly, to exact the tithe. When told by his wingleader to step down, he refused, and instead drew his weapon. What followed was a short duel, won by the older, more experienced, more ruthless wingleader.
Freshly out of weyrlinghood, the younger brother had not seen any of this personally, but he heard it quickly enough, and it struck fear into his heart. He would be placed in the same situation, he knew that. That was intolerable. He'd seek another way: the renegades. They were a constant, annoying problem to Antaris, but to him they represented hope: being a dragonrider didn't have to be this way.
So he stole away to them in the dead of night, but not alone. First he went to the herdcrafthall, to get his family. Worried that Antaris would seek retribution on those he left behind, he would take them with him into his exile. Their father was long dead, but their mother was still alive, as was his 15 year old sister, Lys. Lys had, up to this point, had a normal upbringing. She was a crafter, and lived under the same conditions of many of the holds, learning how to ply her craft under the watchful eyes of Antaris. This was the first significant, major change in her life since she decided to enter the herdcraft at 10.
She went with her brother, of course, and they joined the renegade camp, leaving behind everything they knew. She hadn't heard of Bry's death before they arrived, either- he came to them at night, saying that it was important, that they had to leave NOW for their safety, and only once they were in camp did he explain the situation. there had been no time before; he couldn't be too careful.
She was devastated by the loss of her brother, but there was little time to mourn: she went from being part of a family that had been established in the herder crafthall to generations, to becoming a holdless wanderer with a group of rebellious dragonriding exiles. There was Adjusting that needed doing, and so she mourned Bry privately, in her own time.

Candidate Info
Honorific: Lysra
Preferences:
No color preference, though mild preference for a female dragon for lysra specifically, but nothing more specific then that- not strong preference, however. Please do have 10+ adjectives or more, more is better. Otherwise, I tend to like colorful and/or attractive designs- get as wild as you want, or as calm as you want. :3
